Ingredients

For the Biscuits
  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp Baking powder
  • 1 tbsp Granulated sugar
  • ½ tsp Baking soda
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • ½ cup Cold unsalted butter cut into cubes
  • ¾ cup Cold buttermilk plus a little more for brushing
For the Honey Butter Glaze
  • ¼ cup Unsalted butter melted
  • 3 tbsp Honey
  • Pinch of flaky sea salt optional, for garnish

Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Whisk
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Fork or wooden spoon
  • Rolling Pin
  • Biscuit cutter or cookie cutters
  • Baking Sheet
  • Pastry brush
  • Small bowl

Method

  1. Prep Your Oven
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Make the Biscuit Dough
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, baking soda, and salt.
Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs with pea-sized bits of butter.
Pour in the buttermilk and stir gently with a fork until just combined. The dough should be shaggy, not smooth.
  3. Shape the Biscuits
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it 5–6 times (don’t overwork).
Pat the dough into a ¾-inch thick rectangle. Fold the dough in half, pat it back down, and repeat 2 more times, this creates flaky layers.
Using a 2½-inch biscuit cutter, cut out biscuits and place them close together on the baking sheet. Gather scraps and repeat until all dough is used.
Brush the tops lightly with buttermilk.
  4. Bake
Bake for 12–15 minutes, until the biscuits are puffed and golden brown on top.
  5. Make the Honey Butter Glaze
While the biscuits are baking, whisk together melted butter and honey in a small bowl.
  6. Glaze & Serve
Remove the biscuits from the oven and immediately brush them generously with the warm honey butter. Sprinkle with flaky sea salt if desired. Serve warm.
